Primates
The characters ‘Primates’ are two naked men. They are the most inaccessible characters in the project, as they do not speak or interact with any other characters or members of the audience. Their existence is limited to sitting at the top of two staircases. Both remain motionless and serious, observing like sphinxes in a cathedral. In sync, they descend the stairs and cross the space in order to switch places with each other, like two imperial sentinels.
As they walk across the floor, the Primates walk silently, crouching down to cover their genitals. As soon as the Primates stand up to begin descending the stairs, all the other characters begin to shout, 'SHHHHH! Shhhhhhh!“, signalling to everyone present to be quiet and remain still until the scene is completely over. In terms of the characters” hierarchy, they occupy the highest role. The fact that they do not speak and have no clothes is understood as an act of social and spiritual superiority.
