“Perception is Wild” (2009) was the first project by Anti-House. This film-project presents different archetypal figures and their interrelationships in order to explore their behaviour as characters in a narrative.

“Perception is Wild” introduces the central character, “Man/Boy”, through a sequence of seemingly inexplicable events. A ritual journey that secretly resonates with a kind of initiation. Each visual element is a character that shapes and unbalances the initial plot. It is also in this film that the Crystal Beings are introduced for the first time, moving around and driving the narrative, as prop assistants, such as the 5 Old Ladies. ‘Perception is Wild’ is the birthplace of many visual elements and characters that still inhabit the artist's work in general. Made in 2009, this film is set in the rural Portuguese village of Pena Branca, near Miranda do Douro, with friends and local inhabitants. It is presented as a continuous and uninterrupted performance, filmed in long shots and with minimal editing, revealing the importance of the performative act in the work.
