Crystal Beings

The Crystal Beings are recurring archetypes in Luísa Mota's performative universe: mirrored figures completely camouflaged in Mylar suits, which symbolically reflect on social invisibility while channeling an inner and spiritual presence that transcends age, gender, and context. These characters function as ritual vessels — playful and poetic entities that open up space for the collective exploration of themes such as identity, marginalization, sustainability, and transformation.

INVISIBLE FREEDOM

These immersive beings represent a space parallel to the physical - something invisible, intergalactic, ghostly. These characters throughout the years have represented many aspects of the existential inquiry - due their essence and physicality. Initially representing invisibility of the proletariat and social protest, they have appeared in groups in urban settings. Covered from head to toe in a silver, mirrored (Mylar) suit, they are characterized by being anonymous, silent and peaceful. Most recently, they have also come to represent the spiritual dimension of being - free of identity and body.

The residue from the suits is never wasted. Waste is not only reused but rethought — transformed into something modular, durable, and meaningful. Some artifacts that have come up from this process are Crystal Balls and Crystal Wands.
