The Widows

The Widows are five women aged between 34 and 65. Dressed in black and wearing smoky eye make-up, the Widows circulate between the interior and exterior. It is through them that the audience is accessed. Their role involves ‘hunting’ for audience members to come in and accompany them to the space. The Widows do not necessarily speak, they are limited to six words: ‘Come,’ ‘you,’ ‘photo,’ ‘altar,’ ‘soul,’ and ‘blood,’ repeating them with enthusiasm, mystery, and seduction.

In ‘Tuti Momo’ (2015), they would pick people from the exterior and convince them with their charm to enter the theater and witness the performance. They accomplished this mission without uttering any other words except for the six they are limited to. Their unusual approach surprised the passerby and invoked different reactions.

"YOU. COME."
